The story
The Fulvia was launched in 1963 as a saloon: front-wheel drive, Lancia's compact V4 engine and careful engineering in every detail. The saloon later gave rise to the coupé and the Zagato, which made the name famous in racing too.
This black saloon, with its black Cuneo plate, arrived complete but with mechanics to redo and many years of dirt in the engine bay. In the workshop the engine was dropped out, overhauled and refitted; wheels, hubcaps and interior were put back in order.
The restoration step by step
The heart of the Fulvia
- Step 1 of 4
How it arrived
Good-looking outside, but under the bonnet oil, dust and tired wiring; inside the wheel arches the rust had started its work.
- Step 2 of 4
Engine out
The car is raised onto dollies and the engine unit, with gearbox and front suspension, is lowered out from below and taken to the bench.
- Step 3 of 4
Engine overhauled, bay cleaned
The engine is overhauled and cleaned; the engine bay, freed of years of grime, is put right before everything goes back in place.
- Step 4 of 4
The interior
Seats, panels and the dashboard with its Fulvia script are back in order, with the striped mats in place.
